Coyote (Canis latrans) Observed in Edmonton Urban Setting

I observed a coyote trotting down the sidewalk of the street of which I reside during the afternoon. I found this to be abnormal because coyotes in Alberta typically utilize habitat consisting of grasslands, agricultural lands or forested areas. Although upon investigation I see that they are more frequently utilizing urban environments in Edmonton.

Gregory Pohl, Biodiversity Researcher with the Canadian Forest Service, writes:

Indeed there is a fairly significant population within Edmonton, that lives in the ravine and river valley system. They're seen quite often near Whitemud and Mill Creek ravines. However, they're usually active at dusk/dawn and at night, so if you saw it in the daytime, that's rather brazen of that coyote. They're definitely one of the adaptive species that is learning to live quite happily among us humans.
