Thawing permafrost and erosion is resulting in the loss of infrastructure in Newtok. These images show impacts on utility poles, and the shoreline.

These photos were taken today in Newtok of the erosion along the shoreline. The photos were taken by Carolyn George, who has given permission to post on LEO Network. Carolyn writes: “This is Newtok, Alaska 10/1/21. I just measured how far the erosion is from the school. We used a measuring tape and it is 152 feet today. Please share. Governor Mike Dunleavy please help us.”
