Seasonal swings set drivers up for bad trip.
Observation by Mike Brubaker:
Driving across the hillside this morning I came across an intersection with four vehicles in the ditch. The roads were super slick after two days of snow and about 8" of accumulation. This after two weeks of unusually warm weather. Everyone was getting their bikes out and putting the skis away, and then this. Having snow this time of year actually is not unusual. The early Spring was unusual and with the roads dry and so much warm weather, many people were quick to switch their tires. In Alaska many people drive with studded tires in the winter. The Municipality of Anchorage allows studded tires between September 15th and April 30th. Outside of this period you can be fined $15 per tire, because the studs are very wearing on the asphalt. Today's road carnage on the Hillside is an indication of what can happen when drivers get caught on the wrong side of Spring.
