Pacific sleeper shark

OBSERVATION: For the first time known/recorded to residents of King Cove, there was a Pacific Sleeper shark observed on the shoreline in the King Cove lagoon. It was at least eight feet in length and appeared to be sick or injured. Its eye's were clouded over pretty bad and a portion of its mouth had been gouged out. AnnDee Roehl

CONSULT: Bruce Wright, Senior Scientist at the Aleutian Pribilof Islands Association, said, "its' not uncommon for Sleeper sharks to have clouded eyes. The animals are opportunistic foragers, feeding on bottom fishes, octopuses, crabs, tritons, and occasionally on harbor seals and carrion." Note, the carcass of this shark was found on a nearby beach a few days after the video was taken.
