4/16/15 Early waterfowl - Anchorage, Alaska, USA
Observation: Today the first ducks, two males and one female mallard arrived at the ANTHC campus in Anchorage, along with a pair of Canada Geese. These seems a bit early and I wonder if waterfowl are following other cues of an early spring and migrating early. Fortunately they have a little open water around the lake fringe which they seemed to be enjoying. The lake however, is the lowest I have seen it, on account of the low snow this winter. Even after the ice melts, I think we will be starting the summer in Anchorage with low lake levels.
LEO says: The Alaska Audubon Society have been notified of this observation.
