The condition in Haines is spring-like in mid-March. There is no snow to speak of in town, and the snowline on the surrounding mountains is pretty high. At Chilkoot Lake, there is open water around the edges. Mostly, I was amazed to hear all of the songbirds in the hills and in the trees along the Chilkoot River. I shot some video at the parking lot at the lakeside and also some along the river and recorded audio of the bird songs. I am wondering what kind of songbirds these are and whether they have arrived early like everything else this year.
