Environment Canada has issued air quality statements for parts of the N.W.T.'s Mackenzie Delta region, including Fort McPherson and Tsiigehtchic.

The department of Environment and Natural Resources says fires were caused by lightning.

The Northwest Territories experienced a lower than average fire season this year. Fire crews and resources from the territory helped respond to wildfires in B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan, the Yukon and Ontario.
