Background

Store-bought milkweed plants can expose monarch caterpillars to harmful pesticides

United States

Researchers found pesticide-contaminated plants in nurseries in 15 states

Comment from Stephanie Coronado:

Nursery-bought plants contained high levels of Fungicide, which can cause monarch butterflies to have reduced wingsize and other adverse effects. "In many ways, [nursery plants] are as contaminated or even worse than plants growing on the edges of agricultural fields."
