A massive snow dump reached the hamlet of Clyde River, Nunavut, while its bulldozer and one loader were out of service. Residents worked to clear snow so that trucked water and sewage services could reach homes.

According to an RCMP news release, the hunter was part of a group of five men hunting for polar bears. The group was 65 kilometres southeast of Clyde River when the man fell through the ice at about 9:30 p.m.

Science has confirmed what fishermen in Clyde River, Nunavut, have been saying for decades: Atlantic salmon do make their way to the hamlet on Baffin Island north of the Arctic Circle.

By late afternoon the fast-moving blaze had already burned more than 1,350 hectares and had caused the shutdown of sections of Highway 103 due to thick, heavy smoke. By Sunday night, 2,296 hectares had burned. A mandatory evacuation of some area residents also occurred Sunday as firefighters and fire crews face a grim forecast for the week ahead: No rain. This is just one of several wildfires burning in Nova Scotia on Sunday amid dry, hot and windy conditions.

A buildup of snow is hampering the hamlet's ability to deliver municipal services, like snow clearing and trucked water.
