Impacts of Fairbanks December Rain

Here in South Fox we received about 10" of heavy wet snow Dec 25-26 that changed to rain, with over an inch of rain before the precipitation ended. As we were clearing snow after the end of the storm, it became apparent that the rain had percolated through the deep snowpack and water had been flowing at ground level, as evidenced by frozen puddles in the same low parts of the driveway that get puddles in the summer. Possibly related, we have not seen any sign of red-backed voles since the rain, in marked contrast to quite a bit prior to the rain.
