From 10:45am until 11:50am a sudden flurry of snow came and went on an otherwise warm spring day.

At the end of April, especially during a particularly warm spring, it is highly unusual to see snow. Yet at about 10:45 am a flurry of snow started to fall and didn't stop until about 11:50 am. It was coming down with such vigor, it looked like a spring blizzard outside my window, which is something I have never seen in all my 21 years living here in Alaska.

The Sutton Weather Station does not have historic data on the day this sudden flurry occurred. However, the Palmer and Valdez weather stations provide the temperature and precipitation data for April 30th (graphs provided below). Though Palmer is closer than Valdez to Sutton-Alpine, there is no record of precipitation. The Valdez graph may provide more of a clue for this observation with its higher reports of wind and precipitation. According to the AccuWeather report for Sutton-Alpine on April 30th, the high temperature for the day was 49 degrees while the low was 31 degrees. Perhaps it was just cold enough during the day to produce precipitation in the form of snow. Additional information below reports that temperatures rise and precipitation goes down in Sutton-Alpine during April, so this is an interesting observation.
