Observation: This picture was taken Sept. 14, 2016. There were LOTS of slugs like this on the woodland trails.
LEO says: This looks like a European Black Slug Ader Rufus Vulgaris Complex. This is an invasive species which was first recorded in Alaska in 2005 in Cordova, Soldotna and Fairbanks. They have also been documented in the CAPS surveys in Tenakee Springs. (Ref. CAPS). The Forest Service is currently in the process of creating an Invasive Slug Action Plan for the Chugach National Forest. This observation has been added to the LEO Slug Watch Project.
