I understand that Ms. Hafting has reported Herring spawn this date off Lighthouse Park, Pt. Roberts. This same date while checking the area SE of the marina, I walked a better part of the beach from the marina to Lily Point. I observed SMALL amounts of beach cast roe that might be herring spawn. The area near the marina had the most spawn, BUT not in the density seen in previous years, as there was a HUGE change in seabird activity. VERY few birds; a few goldeneyes and a few cormorants, and very unusual to see only 4 harlequin ducks--2 pair only. The spawn might be just starting. I've been walking the beach from Centennial Beach to the border several times this Month and found no eggs.
