An Overview of Winter 2018 Sea Ice Conditions
Hajo Eicken, International Arctic Research Center, University of Alaska Fairbanks
Description: A brief overview of what researchers at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, NOAA, and other research institutions have learned about the low ice year in the Bering Sea this winter of 2017/18. There will be an opportunity to share observations and questions from LEO network members.
Learning goal: How was the ice cover of this past winter unusual? What are some of the causes? What can be expected in the future? What are some of the impacts in the region?
Summary: Bering Strait: An overview of winter 2018 sea ice conditions – This summary was made by the International Arctic Research Center (IARC) in collaboration with NOAA. IARC is one of several research facility at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. One of our goals is to help Alaskans understand, prepare for and adapt to climate change impacts in the Arctic.
Respectfully, The LEO Team at ANTHC
