Weather has been up and down here all week. Beautiful sunshine one day, snow and winter storms again the next or even by the evening. Changes from minute-to-minute around here.

Rick Thoman, Climate Scientist at the Alaska Center for Climate Assessment and Policy, writes:

Through March 21st, precipitation at Cold Bay was running well above normal for the month (daily form through the 27th attached). The month has featured about the typical number of days with precipitation. Above normal sea surface temperatures in the Bering Sea and north Pacific could be a factor in the enhanced precipitation.

Wunderground Weather history for the nearby community of Cold Bay shows three precipitation events and variable temperatures for March 2019. Weather data for March 2000 shows less temperature variation and precipitation throughout the month. In 2000, the average March temperature was 32 degrees.The average temperature so far for this March has been 35 degrees (see Cold Bay weather data below). A review of the March average temperature projections from SNAP show that this year's temperatures are matching the model projection for 2040 to 2049.
