Wolves and bears rummaging around the dump.
Observation by AnnDee Roehl:
There was a pack of wolves chasing a brown bear from the landfill going up the mountain side. People are worried that if the wolves are starving and they are starting to chase brown bears, it can become a situation, especially to residents/visitors or pets that may be outside walking or kids playing at local playgrounds and in yards, if the wolves start chasing the bears throughout our town.
Comments from LEO Editors:
Alaska Department of Fish and Game's (ADF&G) Living With Wildlife page provides links for wolves and bears with information on safety precautions people can use around these animals. Community members should contact ADF&G wildlife biologist, Meghan Riley, at the King Salmon Area Office with any questions or concerns (246-3340). For immediate public safety concerns, please contact the Alaska State Troopers.
