5-25-14 High spruce pollen McDonald Spit, Alaska, USA
Observation: There is quite a pollen event happening here this spring. We notice a lot of what we think is spruce pollen in the water, on roofs, the beach, my truck, everywhere. Maybe the dry conditions have made it more apparent this year. On a positive note we have an early blossom of salmon berry bushes. Everything seems to be a few weeks ahead of schedule. Everyone here is tuned into the seasonal timing of natural events. We notice the changes and wonder whether salmon, berry harvest and other activities will be effected. The only things that seem to still be on schedule is the tides. People are paying more attention to actual conditions in the environment then to their calendars.
