Unalakleet had no sea ice during the forecasted fall storm surge on Thursday the 9th of November 2017. The Division of Geological and Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) provided a projected maximum surge height listed in the yellow color index for 11/9 at 1:06 AM. Using a hand-held Garmin Montana 650t unit, I took photos of the tideline in three areas: one near fish processing plant looking toward the baler facility at about 4:33 PM; two near baler facility looking towards the fish processing plant at about 4:26 PM; lastly, near the revetment (4:08 PM) looking toward the school and from the school looking toward the revetment (4:19 PM).
With the snow, it was difficult to discern the tideline. In addition to the tidelines, I documented my tracks using the Garmin unit adjusting the track setting to log about every 5 feet, which was saved as a GPS Exchange (GPX) format. From there, I imported the information into Google Earth Desktop as a KML track.
LEO says: This observation has been added to the project developed for this storm event.
