Unusually warm September temperatures.
Observation by Angela Johnson:
This September, Nelson Lagoon has been experiencing unusual warm and beautiful weather. After a not so nice summer, September came in feeling like spring. Which resulted in new dandelion growth, and that is very odd for this time of year. We know that a lot of places were experiencing warm weather, but I had to document the dandelions because that was the most significant part of this observation.
Richard Thoman, Alaska Climate Specialist with the Alaska Center for Climate Assessment and Policy, writes:
The Bering Sea region was under exceptionally strong high pressure aloft during part of September, producing widespread warmth and clear skies. For the month as a whole, Cold Bay had the second warmest September in the past 65 years (only 2016 milder) and King Salmon had the warmest September since 1995. 10/5/2018

A 2018 temperature chart for Cold Bay shows temperatures above average temperatures for much of September. These temperatures are between 6 and 9 degrees above normal. Erica Lujan
