Permafrost thawing causing bridge damage.
Observation by Mike Brubaker and Ryan Brubaker:
We inspected the bridges in Selawik because of reports that they appeared to be lower than in the past. Boaters noticed how low the bridges seemed over the water. Permafrost thaw is speeding the erosion on both banks. Under the bridge we found that the base seemed to be sinking and the steel structure supports were twisting and cracking.
