Tribal member from St. Mary's, Alaska noticed this on her when she went back inside her home. Turns out it is an elm sawfly, Cimbex americana.
Observation by Eric Alstrom:
Tribal member from St. Mary's, Alaska noticed this on her when she went back inside her home. Does not know what kind of insect/bug it is, can it be a bee or wasp? It was biting not stinging.

We have shared this observation with our colleagues at the Cooperative Extension Service and UAF Museum for their consideration and input. They frequently help with insect identification. LEO Network Members are also invited to share their comments and knowledge. M. Brubaker
Comment by Derek Sikes:
That's an elm sawfly, Cimbex americana. A large harmless sawfly (no sting).

Thanks Derek for the identification. In related articles we found three other sawfly articles, all within pretty close proximity to St. Mary's. You can see all of these attached, along with a description of the elm sawfly from iNaturalist.
