Dead humpack whale found between Port Graham and Seldovia.
Observation by Naomi McMullan:
On a beach in between Port Graham and Seldovia, there is a dead humpback whale. Very unusual. Is it connected with the seismic testing they are doing in the Cook Inlet? I have informed Fish and Game in Homer and Seldovia Environmental Office.
Observation from Stephen Payton:
Someone heard from a fisherman that a whale had washed up on a nearby beach. They invited me to skiff out to see if we could spot it. It looks like a young male humpback whale. Unfortunately it was too rough to safely land on the beach for better photos.
Comments from LEO Editors:
This observation has been shared with the NOAA Marine Mammal Stranding Network and Cook Inletkeeper. We have no information about how long this whale has been dead or the cause. See attached posts for examples of other humpback whale strandings reported in LEO Network. Mike Brubaker
