Found what seems to be a kangaroo mouse and a normal mouse
Patricia Yaska writes,
My cousins and I found what seems to be a Kangaroo mouse and a normal mouse (that we normally see in this area), both were found dead. We have never seen this type of mouse up here before? I "googled" a kangaroo mouse, and it seems to resemble that species. But I could be wrong. I asked people in the area if they have ever seen this type of mouse before, and they all have said no.
LEO says:
This appears to be a "meadow jumping mouse," (Zapus hudsonius). These mice are found in the eastern United States, as well as central Canada and Alaska. They prefer moist grassland areas and are found in vegetated areas near streams, ponds, and swamps/marsh. Source: Animal Diversity Web, Meadow Jumping Mouse Species Profile
