This has been a great year for the mushrooms
Observation: A great year for fall mushrooms.. According to weather underground, Merrill Field received rain on all but seven days in August. That is over 3 inches and twice the August average. It has also rained almost every day in September; so we can safely say that the conditions are quite wet. This has resulted in a bumper crop of fungus and more toadstools then I ever remember seeing around our home. Today I counted over 50 in our yard. We like seeing the colorful and poisonous toadstools and picking for edible mushrooms like boletes has been great, but the weather has been tough for traveling, construction, recreation, tourism and so forth. High water is not the best for fishing and there has been regular flood warnings and erosion problems with Anchorage streams running very high. I think after a terrific summer of sun, morale was pretty high in Anchorage, but a month of rain has made the mood pretty soggy.
