Observation by Harvey Hoffman
An Aniak resident found these plants below Oskawalik and never have seen them before. They have a strange round shape and we couldn't identify it.
Comments by LEO editors
This plant has perplexed us all! There are many plant species that have similar leaf structure and pattern, but it is difficult to identify when the bulge at the bottom is accounted for. LEO has received a number of posts this year of mutated plants, perhaps it is a mutated bud of a flowering plant, or a different plant species all together. It is difficult to pinpoint where the root emerges and where the leafy stem emerges. LEO members, if you think you may know what this is, please let us know!
Below in the photos are plant species that look the closest to what Harvey Hoffman reported. Chyna Perez-Williams
