Sea lion washes ashore in Nanwalek.
Observation by Nancy Yeaton:
Across from the end of the airstrip, the sea lion floated in when we had our big storm and just stayed on the beach across from the airstrip. The sea lion was found by a community member and his family while riding around on the beach. This is concerning because our food sources are being impacted by environmental change. Whether the cause is climate change, radiation from Fukushima, algal blooms, the outcome is adding stress with the reliance on store and processed foods.

Thank you for passing this along. Given the condition of the animal, I don't believe sampling it would prove beneficial. I will file a report with NOAA that will put this sea lion in their database, and will forward these pictures along to them as well. If it would be possible to get a measurement of the animal's length, a rough estimate of weight, and a GPS location of the carcass, those would be helpful pieces of information.
